Thinking Less of Yourself vs. Thinking of Yourself Less

There is a profound difference between thinking less of yourself (not useful), and thinking of yourself less (better).

Let's break down this statement.

Thinking Less Of Yourself

It is often related to creating space for others and not stepping on toes. This is simply not true. If someone is offended by your confidence, achievements, joy, or energy. That has more to do with their relationship with themselves than you.

"You are not required to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm." - Unknown

Having a low self-image is detrimental to you and everyone around you. It restricts you from utilizing your full potential, leading to underperformance and a negative feedback cycle. Recognizing your worth and embracing your abilities is crucial for personal growth and success.

"Low self-esteem is like driving through life with your handbrake on." - Maxwell Maltz

Thinking of Yourself Less

This shift in mindset not only helps others but also brings personal benefits. Fears, overwhelms, frustrations, and anger often stem from thinking about only yourself. Once you step outside yourself, consider how these problems relate to others, your community, your environment, and the world. The obstacles themselves will dwindle in comparison or vanish, and you'll find a sense of peace and fulfillment in serving others.

"One of the great ironies of life is this: He or she who serves almost always benefits more than he or she who is served." - Gordon B. Hinckley

Through my life coaching practice, I've witnessed a powerful transformation. People 'find' their purpose when they lose themselves in helping others. This selfless act of caring, without the intention of receiving, is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself. It opens doors to personal growth, development, and a deeper understanding of your potential.

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." - Mahatma Gandhi

As the mental performance coach for New York Gridlock, I work closely with each athlete to help them navigate the challenges they face, both on and off the field. In our one-on-one coaching sessions, athletes bring their obstacles—whether it's coming back from injury, playing in big games, dealing with pressure, finding joy in the game, or overcoming poor performance.

I don't just give advice; I empower athletes to find the answers within themselves. Together, we uncover their inner strength and apply it to their game. I believe that the key to success lies within each athlete, and my role is to guide them on their journey to unlocking their full potential.
