A Colorful Day of Ultimate

Over 60 ultimate players of color shone on the fields of Van Cortlandt Park on November 2. This tournament was an aspiration made into reality by players of color FOR players of color. Six teams were made, each named after an influential person of color. Somehow, someway, more defenders of womxn and defenders of anyone (flex) signed up in comparison to defenders of men. It was truly an equitable event.

We are very grateful for New York Gridlock sponsoring the jerseys for the event. Because of their help, everyone was able to play in a jersey that prominently showcased POC pride and was able to take home the memories of a joyous day.

Everywhere we turned, we saw faces lit up, we heard folx expressing how they have been waiting for such an event. We felt at home with familiar faces and were excited to see so many new ones too. It felt like we were home, really.

Well folx, stay tuned for more. Because this is just the beginning to a bigger, more colorful future of ultimate in New York City.
